Wajid Khan passes away, Amitabh Bachchan, Varun Dhawan, Karan Johar mourn the loss of the music composer

The deadly coronavirus has spread like wildfire around the world. India has been in lockdown since March end in order to contain the spread of the virus. In the latest news, Wajid Khan of the music composer duo Sajid-Wajid has passed away due to COVID-19 at the age of 42. Sonu Nigam confirmed the news post-midnight on June 1 by sharing a photo with the music composer on his Instagram.

 

As per sources, the music composer had already pre-existing kidney condition before he tested positive for COVID-19. He was admitted to the hospital and was reportedly on a ventilator.

Tributes have been pouring in for Wajid Khan who worked with several artists and actors in the past. Amitabh Bachchan, Varun Dhawan, Karan Johar, Parineeti Chopra are amongst the few who are grieving the untimely passing of the music composer.

BTS FESTA 2020: The opening ceremony begins with ‘Airplane Pt. 2’ in Saipan and we indeed love the summer version a lot

BTS FESTA 2020 has officially commenced. The septet, every year, celebrates their debut anniversary with their fans with “FESTA” which is a festival way of celebrating with unreleased content, music, song covers, dance videos, photos among others. Starting from June 1, BTS has begun the two-week-long Festa with the summer version of their song ‘Airplane Pt. 2’.

The song was recorded by the South Korean group for their 2018 album, ‘Love Yourself: Tear’. The version was filmed during their Saipan trip when they filmed their summer package. Dancing by the pool, the members – RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook – let loose as they enjoy the perfect weather while dancing along with each other. Their hair colours from that era were so bright and vibrant. We love them seeing vibing and chilling!

On May 28, the timeline was released and every content that will be shared leading up to the debut anniversary date, that is June 13, 2020.

Suga recently released his second mixtape ‘D-2’ after 2016’s ‘AGUST D’. The group is set to release their Japanese album in July and the jacket photos were released on May 28.

Reliance Entertainment CEO Shibasish Sarkar tests positive for COVID-19

In the latest news,  Reliance Entertainment Group CEO Shibasish Sarkar has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently being treated at a hospital.

As per reports, the producer was admitted to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital after he developed fever on Saturday, May 30. His fever has now gone down and is currently recovering from coronavirus.

Shibasish Sarkar, on May 28, participated in a webinar where he spoke about the coronavirus pandemic, its effects on the industry, and their two big releases Sooryavanshi starring Akshay Kumar and Ranveer Singh’s 83.

GOT7’s Yugyeom participates in The King Of Masked Singer

South Korean group GOT7 may have been done the promotions of their last album ‘Dye’, they are currently busy with their solo work, respectively. The group’s singer Yugyeom participated in the popular variety show, The King Of Masked Singer where he performed a duet and solo song.

The audience and the panel were left surprised to find that the man behind the raspberry outfit was GOT7 singer Yugyeom. For the duet, they chose to croon ‘I Will Love You’ song. For the solo stage, he chose to sing JYP Entertainment’s CEO Park Jinyoung’s song ‘I Have a Girlfriend’. Since it was the first time he crooned the track, he said, “It’s totally my first time to do it on air. It is amazing that I got to appear on King of Mask Singer. I’m glad I got a chance to perform here.”

Speaking of why he chose the song, he said that growing up he saw, “Park Jinyoung on Television while performing it. At that time, I did not know what the term ‘sexy’ meant, but since then, it was my dream to become a singer and dancer. I respect the fact that he is still making music for a long time now.”

Director Mohit Suri is keeping himself busy during the lockdown. The filmmaker, who last helmed Malang that released in February this year, is ready with the first draft of the sequel, Malang 2.

Sharing a photo on Instagram, Mohit Suri shared a quote of Alfred Hitchcock and wrote, “To make a great film you need 3 things : The script , the script and the script.”

The announcement of the sequel was made earlier this month. “We are thankful to the audience who has shown such a phenomenal response to our film Malang after the theatres, now on OTT.  While people are enjoying Malang on Netflix- Yes, we are coming up with Malang 2. Mohit and Luv are working on the sequel and more details will follow soon,” Ankur Garg, producer of the film, had said in a statement.

Ekta Kapoor confirmed the details on her social media accounts and Nia Sharma went ahead to say that the production house was very professional about it and informed the actors a few days before making the announcement. After Rashami Desai and Nia Sharma have said that due thanks to the makers for this opportunity and the show ending, Vijayendra Kumeria has commented on the same too. He says when he first got to know the news, he was shocked but it sunk in after a while.

He was fine with the news after some time because it happens with every show, so as an actor he has to be prepared for such surprises. Vijayendra couldn’t help but thank Ekta Kapoor for this opportunity since it was his dream to work with Balaji. A year ago, Ranveer Singh and Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu came together to shoot an action-packed ad for the brand Thums Up. The photos from the sets had gone viral. Now, some unseen photos are doing the rounds of social media.

In the photos, both Mahesh Babu and Ranveer Singh are sporting grunge look as they shot the ad film in Mumbai. The earlier ad campaign was shot in California, last year. Mahesh’s wife Namrata Shirodkar had shared a couple of photos of the actors on her Instagram.

On the film front, Mahesh Babu and Geetha Govindam director Parasuram and Baahubali maker SS Rajamouli are coming together for a megaproject.

Irrfan Khan’s wife Sutapa Sikdar shares pictures of the actor one month after his demise

Actor Irrfan Khan passed away on April 29 after his prolonged battle with neuroendocrine tumour. The actor was being treated in London for his cancer after which he returned to India to shoot his last film Angrezi Medium. But, even after that, his health seemed to have deteriorated. He breathed his last on April 29 after being admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.

One month after his death, Irrfan’s wife Sutapa Sikdar took to her Facebook account to share some memories of the actor. She wrote, “Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right doing there is a field. I’ll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass the world is too full to talk about.” It’s just a matter of time…milenge baaten karenge…. Till we meet again.”

A few days after his demise, Sutapa had issued a statement on behalf of the family. It read, “How can I write this as a family statement when the whole world is taking it as a personal loss? How can I begin to feel alone when millions are grieving with us at the moment? I want to assure everyone that this is not a loss, it is a gain. It’s a gain of the things he taught us, and now we shall finally begin to truly implement it and evolve. I see my little family, in a boat, with both my sons Babil and Ayaan, paddling it forward, with Irrfan guiding them, ‘wahan nahi, yahan se modo’, but since life is not cinema and there are no retakes, I sincerely wish my children sail this boat safely with their father’s guidance in mind and rockabye through the storm.”

Irrfan Khan was last seen in Homi Adajania’s Angrezi Medium that released in March 2020.

Radhika Madan says flying back to Delhi felt like a scene from an apocalyptic movie

Radhika Madan was among the first celebrities to head back to her hometown, Delhi, as soon as the domestic flights resumed. According to the government’s guidelines, strict measures are being taken ever since the domestic flights resumed on May 25. Radhika Madan is currently practicing the mandatory 14-days-long quarantine and is yet to hug her parents.

Speaking of her travelling experience, she says it felt like a scene from an apocalyptic movie and says that it could be our future, too. She further elaborated how they were asked to show their ID and boarding passes through a glass barrier. No human contact was ensured and they were boarded and de-boarded sequentially. Radhika further said that she avoided using the public restrooms and even though she was cautious, she was not scared.

The Angrezi Medium star further said that she wanted to be around her parents during these trying times.

BTS’ Suga makes historic records with AGUST D-2 on UK, Ireland and Australia music charts

South Korean group BTS’ rapper-songwriter-producer Suga is making an impact with his recent mixtape release, ‘D-2’. Made under his pseudonym AGUST D, the fiery second mixtape released on May 22 with the title track ‘Daechwita’ as he sampled marching music. The ten-track free mixtape features unique traditional Korean samples along with features including BTS’ leader RM, musician Niihwa, American singer MAX and Kim Jong-wan of NELL.

The mixtape has landed at Number 7 on the UK Albums Chart. The entry makes him the first-ever solo Korean artist to land a UK Top 10 album. He also becomes the second Korean artist next to BTS to land a spot on the UK Chart. His single ‘Daechwita’ is ranked at Number 68 on the UK Singles Chart.

EXCLUSIVE: Amitabh Bachchan on Gulabo Sitabo releasing on OTT platform – “The best way to survive is to embrace change, not fight it”

The invincible Amitabh Bachchan speaks about his forthcoming film Gulabo Sitabo starring Ayushmann Khurrana releasing on OTT platform.

Gulabo Sitabo is your first release on the OTT platform. Does it feel any different from your earlier in-theatre releases?
First of all, I want to know what OTT means. Is it an abbreviation for ‘Oh Teri!’. Sorry, bad one. That’s the Punjabi in me. As you know, my mother was Sikh. Coming back to your, question, no it doesn’t feel any different. Why should it? I’ve been working for 51 years and I’ve witnessed a lot of changes. The best way to survive is to embrace change, not fight it.

You have gone through a whole history of cinematic metamorphosis, from black and white to OTT?
That’s true. My first film Saat Hindustani was in Black & White. We then moved to colour. Then, from 35mm to 70mm. From mono-sound to the most advanced sound systems. From single screen to multiple screens. AND most importantly the WORKER on the set from pyjamas and bare feet to jeans and sneakers! The digital release is part of cinema’s ongoing process of evolution. One shouldn’t avoid change. I wouldn’t!

The younger generation of stars is so much in awe of you they find it difficult to look you into the eye on camera. It must have been really difficult for Ayushmann Khurrana to be so rude to you?
Let me correct you. The young actors are very confident and not in the least awed by me. The current generation of actors is a pleasure to work with. They are well-prepared before coming on the sets and thoroughly professional. Ayushmann had no problem whatsoever being, as you say, rude to me on camera.  It’s ACTING, remember?

Hence the question, what it like working with Khurrana has no real relevance?
I cannot understand that question at all! We are professionals on the sets. And we all need to give our best shot. If any one of us gives less than our best then the work suffers. Ayushmann, which by the way means long-lasting and that’s what his career is likely to be, was doing his best on the sets. And I hope I was doing my best. You may ask the director Shoojit Sircar if I was good enough or not.

Shoojit has cast you as a grumpy old man again in Gulabo Sitabo after Piku?
For more than 20 years now, I have played the leading man, the hero who fights against all odds, beats up the villain and walks off with the heroine in the end. I never questioned my directors be it Manmohan Desai, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Prakash Mehra in the past or Balki, Karan Johar or Shoojit Sircar in the present about why they cast me the way they did. Perhaps, they see me in a particular way. Perhaps, they have a mental picture of what I’m capable of and cast me accordingly. If Shoojit sees me as grumpy, then so be it.

What was it like shooting in Lucknow for Gulabo Sitabo?
Lucknow, it isn’t called a city of nawabs for nothing! It is a city that gives you a royal welcome, and serves you the best cuisine in India. The people are warm and hospitable. No wonder Lucknow has become a favourite shooting spot for our film industry. While we were shooting in Lucknow, there were three other films also being shot there. By the way, I look forward to shooting in your city, Patna, in the near future.

Amitji, Gulabo Sitabo required a lot of prosthetics from you. I know how wary you are even of sticking on a beard on your face?
That’s right!  Do you remember the discomfort I faced when shooting for my dear departed friend Mukul Anand’s Khuda Gawah? That beard which you said made me look distinguished made me feel anything but distinguished. But Balki’s Paa tutored me in the art of managing with the most arduous prosthetics. In comparison, Gulabo Sitabo was simple…if you see 4-5 hours of makeup in the gruelling summer heat as simpler! But then if you are an actor you can’t complain. The hard work comes with the territory.
