Every year, during the month of June, the LGBTQIA community celebrates Pride Month. The reason the month of June was chosen is that it is when the Stonewall Riots took place, way back in 1969. While the Pride parade in New York gets heavily covered in the press, the community around the world celebrates the day too.
Since Pride month celebrates diversity and inclusiveness, it is a way to spread social awareness about the community. Over the years, India has seen a bit of progress when it comes to capturing LGBTQIA stories on the big screen. In the latest of the films, Ayushmann Khurrana recently starred in what would be called the first gay romantic comedy Shubh Mangal Zyaada Saavdhan. Sonam Kapoor, last year, was a part of a lesbian love story, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga.
An Instagram account ‘socialcentralindia’ reimagined some of the iconic Bollywood movie posters with same-sex relationships to celebrate the Pride month.
